Design that engineers can build

Our designers work alongside our developers, so designs are planned around how the product will actually be built: real data, edge cases, loading and error states, and the conventions of iOS, Android and the web. That means fewer surprises between the design and the finished product.

What we design

  • Mobile apps: iOS and Android interfaces that follow Apple’s and Google’s guidelines.
  • Web apps and SaaS dashboards: complex screens made clear, from tables and filters to settings and onboarding.
  • Websites and landing pages: layouts that explain what you do and turn visits into enquiries.
  • Design systems: reusable components, colours and type, so the product stays consistent as it grows.
  • Redesigns: improving an existing product without confusing the people who already use it.

Our design process

  1. Understand: goals, users, competitors and the data behind each screen.
  2. User flows and wireframes: the structure agreed before visual design.
  3. UI design: high-fidelity screens for every state, on mobile and desktop.
  4. Prototype and test: clickable prototypes to try with users and stakeholders.
  5. Handover and support: specifications and assets for developers, and design reviews during the build.

Accessible by default

We design to the WCAG 2.2 accessibility guidelines: readable contrast, visible focus states, comfortable tap targets and text that scales. Accessible products are easier for everyone to use, and clients in the UK, EU and US increasingly expect them.

Recent design work

For BMX Tap Backup, a native iOS utility for backing up photos and videos to external USB-C storage, we designed the UI/UX as well as building the app. The experience is built around one focused action, a one-tap backup, with the photo library a tap away.

Design and development together

You can work with us on design alone, or on design and development as one team, as on BMX Tap Backup. See mobile app development and web development.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between UI and UX design?

UX (user experience) design is about how a product works: the steps, the structure and whether people can do what they came to do. UI (user interface) design is how it looks: layout, type, colour and components. Good products need both.

Can you design only, while our own team builds?

Yes. We hand over complete screens, states and specifications, and stay available for questions and design reviews while your developers build.

Can you redesign our existing app or website?

Yes. We start by reviewing how people use the current product, keep what works, and change what doesn’t, so existing users aren’t lost.

How much does UI/UX design cost?

It depends on the number of screens and user flows, how much research and testing you want, and whether a design system is needed. We send a written estimate after understanding the product.

Do you design for both iOS and Android?

Yes. We design one product experience and adapt it to each platform’s conventions where that helps users.
